terms of service

I. communication and ordering
  • Feel free to drop me a message via the form available here, or straight away at roryccalvert@gmail.com. It's always preferable that communication shifts to emails in the long run.

  • I will inform you as soon as I can of any waiting lists in place before I'm able to start any work, but unless I'm particularly busy we can begin talking about what you're after right away

  • The clearer and more concise you can be about what you have in mind will always be helpful, but I'm happy to work with less material with the understanding that interpretation is a key point in creating art of any kind.

  • I reserve the right to refuse a commission due to subject matter.

II. payment
  • As of this moment (21.08.2021) payment is only available via Bank Transfer. I am unable to access my Paypal account due to a technical problem which has left me locked out of my account, but I'm working on fixing this as soon as possible. If you have no problems with it and would rather work via Paypal, I can direct you to send funds through my partners' account (through which they also conduct business transactions), but I understand if this is less than ideal and you would rather not.

  • All prices stated on this site, and in other locations where mentioned, are in £ GBP.

  • For work valued at under £60, payment up front is much preferred on my end. For values above £60, I'm willing to allow payments in parts, starting at £30 up front.

III. process
  • For any more polished work, I tend to offer up sketches for checking over before moving on to the next stages of the work. If you'd like more frequent updates than this, let me know!

  • It's quite possible I will ask questions during the process too, to make sure I've understood what you'd like as best I can, or possibly to show rough ideas of which direction I could take.

  • I will try to get the best work in progress images to show you when and if needed, but depending on when and where I'm working I may not be able to get to a scanner for traditional mediums.

  • As much as possible, I try to keep to a tidy schedule for completion, but if something comes up such as a health or family emergency I will inform you as soon as I can. Time scale depends on the scale of the artwork, and we can discuss that during the initial conversation if its an issue for you.

  • Depending on my situation at the time, it might be possible to take rush orders. These are subject to additional charges, and may not always be possible.

IV. Completion and customer satisfaction
  • As best I can, I will always try to get to an outcome you are happy with - that's why I love doing this.

  • While the artwork is still in its more flexible early stages, it will be easier to change, and in fact if you DO want something changed then please let me know sooner rather than later!

  • Major changes late in the game may be subject to an extra charge, especially where I'm working with physical media which would require starting from the ground up (for example, an ink lined piece which has already been inked onto fresh paper).

  • When the work is finished, I will send it over for approval, usually in a smaller file for ease of transfer. After this point, if any payments are still outstanding, I require these to be made in full before sending on the full size completed files to the commissioner.

V. artwork posting and hosting
  • As long as my signatures and/or watermarks remain in tact, the commissioner is welcome to post the artwork where they see fit, as long as no profit is made on artwork where this was not agreed upon beforehand.

  • On tumblr, it is up to you whether I post the art to my blog, or you post it where I can reblog to my own blogs. On occasion I also share artwork via Reddit, usually to a few fairly broad topic subreddits such as /r/DnD or /r/fantasymaps.

  • If for whatever reason, you would like me to hold off on posting images (like for example, gift artwork where the recipient may see it), let me know in advance!

  • Where applicable, it is likely that artwork will end up on this site in one of the galleries.

  • Traditional artwork can be mailed to you and I can provide you with shipping estimates.

VI. Usage policy
  • If the artwork is to be used for commercial purposes, I must be told up front from the beginning. For these uses, additional fees may apply.

  • Where applicable, I would like to be informed of any new uses on older work.

  • Credit must still be made explicit to myself.
